ಇಂದಿನ ಜೀವನದಲ್ಲಿ ನಿಮಗೆ ಎಷ್ಟು ಮಕ್ಕಳು ಎಂದು ಕೇಳಿದರೆ ಕಣ್ಣುಗಳಲ್ಲೆ ಕೊಲೆ ಮಾಡಿಬಿಡುವಂತೆ ಗುರಾಯಿಸಿ ಮಕ್ಕಳಾ ನಮಗೆ ಒಂದೆ ಮಗು ಇರೊದು ಎನ್ನುತ್ತಾರೆ ಈಗಿನ ದಂಪತಿಗಳು.

ಆದರೆ ಹಿಂದಿನವರು ಈಗಲೂ ಸಹ ಕನಿಷ್ಟ ಎರಡಾದರೂ ಸರಿ ಇರಬಾರದೆ ಮಕ್ಕಳು ಎನ್ನುವರು, ಕಾರಣ ಕೇಳಬೇಡಿ ಅವರಿಗೆ ಒಂದಲ್ಲ ಎರಡಲ್ಲ ಮನೆ ತುಂಬ ಒಂದು ಡಜನ್ ಮಕ್ಕಳು ಇದ್ದರೆ ಅದು ಅಂದಿನ ಕಾಲಕ್ಕೆ ಕನಿಷ್ಟವಷ್ಟೆ ಅದನ್ನು ಮೀರಿಸಿದವರು ಇದ್ದಾರೆ, ಕೆಲವರು ಹೆತ್ತು ಸಾಕಲಾಗದೆ ಮಾರಿದವರೂ ಉಂಟು ಕಾರಣ ಬಡತನ ಮತ್ತು ಸಾಕಲಾಗದ ಸ್ಥಿತಿ.

ಆದರೆ ಸಾವಿರ ಮಕ್ಕಳು ಇದ್ದರೆ ಹೇಗೆ...? ಹಾ ಎನ್ನಬೇಡಿ ಗಾಂಧಾರಿಗೂ ಕೂಡ 100 ಮಕ್ಕಳಿದ್ದರು. ಅದು ಆ ಕಾಲ ಎನ್ನಬೇಡಿ. ನಮ್ಮ ಮಧ್ಯೆ ಕೂಡ ಅಂತಹ ಮಹಾ ತಾಯಿ ಇದ್ದಾರೆ ಅವರೆ ಸಿಂಧೂ ತಾಯಿ ಸಪ್ಕಾಳ್.

ಹೌದು ಈಕೆಗೆ ಇರುವುದು ಸಾವಿರ ಮಕ್ಕಳು ಗಾಂಧಾರಿ ಕೂಡ ಹೆದರಿಕೆಯಿಂದ ನಡುಗಬಹುದಾದ ಸಂಖ್ಯೆಯೆ. ಆದರೆ ತಾಯಿ ಆಗಬೇಕಾದರೆ ಹೆರಬೇಕೆಂಬ ನಿಯಮವೇನಿಲ್ಲ ತಾಯಿ ಪ್ರೀತಿ ತೋರಿದ ಮಾತೆ ಕೂಡ ತಾಯಿ ಆಗಲು ಸಾಧ್ಯವೆಂದು ತೋರಿದ ಮಹಾಮಾತೆ.

ಆದರೆ ಬಡತನದ ಸುಖಿ ಕುಟುಂಬ ಒಬ್ಬ ದೂರ್ತನಿಂದ ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ನಿರ್ನಾಮವಾಯಿತು. ಕೂಲಿಯ ಮಾಲಿಕ ಆಕೆಯೊಂದಿಗೆ ಹಳ್ಳಿಯ ಇತರೆ ಹೆಣ್ಣ ಮಕ್ಕಳೊಂದಿಗೆ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಕೆಟ್ಟ ವರ್ತನೆ ಮತ್ತು ಶೋಷಣೆ ಹಾಗೂ ಕಡಿಮೆ ಕೂಲಿಯ ವಿರುದ್ಧವೇ ಸಿಡಿದೆದ್ದು ಅಧಿಕಾರಿಗಳಿಗೆ ತಿಳಿಸಿದಳು ಒಂಟಿಯಾಗಿ. ಆ ರಾಕ್ಷಸನ ಪೋಲಿಸರು ಬೆಂಡೆತ್ತಿ ಕರೆದೊಯ್ಯುದರು.

ಹೊರ ಬಂದವನೆ ಆಕೆ ಮೇಲೆ ಸೇಡು ತೀರಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಬೇಕು ಎಂದು ಹೊಂಚು ಹಾಕಿ ಸಿಂಧೂಳ ಗಂಡನಿಗೆ ಕುಡಿಸಿ ಆಕೆಗೆ ಹಲವರೊಂದಿಗೆ ಸಂಬಂಧವಿದೆ ಮತ್ತು ತನ್ನೊಂದಿಗೆ ಕೂಡ . ಈ ನಿನ್ನ ಹೆಂಡತಿ ಗರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಬೆಳಯುತ್ತಿರುವ ಮಗು ಕೂಡ ತನ್ನದೆ ಉಡುಗೊರೆ ಎಂದು ಕಿವಿ ಊದಿದ. ಅದನ್ನು ನಂಬಿದ ಆಕೆಯ ಗಂಡು ಆಕೆ ಗರ್ಭವತಿ ಎಂದು ಕೂಡ ಎಣಿಸಿದೆ ಆಕೆ ಹೊಡೆದು, ಹೊಟ್ಟೆಗೇ ಒದ್ದು ಆಕೆಯನ್ನು ಕೊಟ್ಟಿಗೆ ತಳ್ಳಿದ ಆತ ಮಾತು ನಂಬಿ.

ಹೊಟ್ಟೆಗೆ ಪೆಟ್ಟು ತಿಂದ ಸಿಂಧೂ ಹೆಣ್ಣು ಮಗುವಿಗೆ ಜನ್ಮ ನೀಡಿದಳು ಆದರೆ ತನ್ನ ಶೀಲದ ಶಂಕೆಗೆ ಮನ ನೊಂದು ಆತ್ಮಹತ್ಯೆ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವ ಇರಾದೆ ಇಂದ ತನ್ನ ಆಗ ತಾನೆ ಹುಟ್ಟಿದ ಕಂದನ ಹಿಡಿದು ರೈಲು ಕಂಬಿ ಮೇಲೆ ಮಲಗಿದಳು ಸಿಂಧೂ.

ಆದರೆ ಹತ್ತಿರದಲ್ಲೆ ಅಳುವ ಸದ್ದು... ದೆವ್ವವೇ ಎಂದು ಹೆದರಿದರು ಮೊದಲಿಗೆ, ಮೆಲ್ಲನೆ ಎದ್ದು ಧೈರ್ಯ ಮಾಡಿ ನೋಡಿದಳು ರೈಲು ಕಂಬಿಯ ಪಕ್ಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಹಣ್ಣು ಹಣ್ಣು ಮುದಿ ಜೀವ ಒಂದು ಹಸಿವಿನಿಂದ ಅಳುತ್ತಿದ್ದನ್ನು ಕಂಡು ಮರುಗಿ... ಹತ್ತಿರವಿದ್ದ ಸ್ಮಶಾನದಕ್ಕೆ ಹೊಕ್ಕಿ ಸಮಾಧಿ ಮೇಲಿದ್ದ ಗೋಧಿಯನ್ನು ತಂದು ಬೇಯಿಸಿ ತಿನ್ನಿಸಿ ಹಸಿವು ನೀಗಿದಳು.

ಆ ಒಂದು ಸನ್ನಿವೇಶ ಆಕೆ ಕಣ್ಣು ತೆರೆಸಿತು ಬದುಕು ಅಂತ್ಯಕ್ಕಲ್ಲ ಬದುಕು ಬಾಳಲು ಎಂದು ನಿರ್ಧಾರಿಸಿ ಅಂದಿನಿಂದ ಅನಾಥವಾಗಿದ್ದ ಮಕ್ಕಳನ್ನು ಕೂಡಿಕೊಂಡು ಭಿಕ್ಷಾಟನೆ ಮಾಡಿ ಆ ಮಕ್ಕಳನ್ನು ಸಾಕಿದಳು.

ಆದರೆ ಆ ತಾಯಿ ಮಕ್ಕಳನ್ನು ಸಾಕುವುದನ್ನು ನಿಲ್ಲಿಸಲಿಲ್ಲ ಜೊತೆಗೆ ಆಕೆ ಶೀಲ ಶಂಕಿಸಿ ಒದ್ದು ಕಳಿಸಿದ್ದ ಗಂಡ ಕೂಡ ಆಕೆ ಆಶ್ರಯ ಅರಸಿ ಬಂದ ಆತನನ್ನು ತಳ್ಳಲಿಲ್ಲ ಆದರೆ ಆಕೆ ಗಂಡನನ್ನು ಕೂಡ ಮಮತೆ ನೀಡಿದಳು ಗಂಡನಂತೆ ಅಲ್ಲ ಅವನನ್ನು ಕೂಡ ಅನಾಥಾಲಯದ ಮಗುವಿನಂತೆ.
